Our Lady of the Holy Rosary church started as a small-town mission chapel in Taft, Louisiana. Our founding pastor, Rev. G. Jobard celebrated the first Mass as a parish church on December 17, 1877.
The church served both sides of the Mississippi River and the entire St. Charles Civil Parish until 1916. The church parish originally consisted of the towns of Killona, Bayou Gauche, Luling, Ama, Boutte, Hahnville, Paradis and Des Allemands until 1955.
Under the pastorate of Father Schorr, the parish broke ground on September 29, 1963 for a new location for the church in Hahnville, with the new building completed in 1964. After significant damage caused by Hurricane Betsy in 1965, the parish finally dedicated its church, rectory, and community center on November 24, 1969.
Our Lady of the Holy Rosary church has had 16 priests serve the parish since its beginning in 1877. The longest term was held by Father Bernard C. Francis (35 yrs.) and the shortest term was held by Father A. D’homme (1 yr.). The current pastor of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary church is Father Paul A. Clark who began on July 1, 2020.
